When venturing out into new territory, SUUNTO MC-2 sighting compasses offer precision navigation with a variety of carefully engineered and dependable features for challenging conditions. Depending on the variant, MC-2 comes with Metric UTM scales and inch ruler or USGS UTM scales.
The Earth’s magnetic field does not flow evenly between the magnetic poles along the surface of the planet. To compensate for the natural tilt in the magnetic field, Suunto compasses use one of two balancing systems and you should choose the variant best serving your needs.
One is a two-zone system with needles balanced for either the northern or southern hemisphere. The second is a global compass with unique balanced system. A single needle is balanced to work anywhere in the world. This is achieved by a breakthrough construction allowing the needle and magnet to tilt independently.
The clinometer is useful in uneven terrain where you need to determine slope gradient to pinpoint your exact location. It also helps to measure altitude.
The lanyard with wristlock is easy to detach for working with the map.
All Suunto compasses are handcrafted at our factory with 100% renewable energy.
The compass liquid used by Suunto is specially formulated to provide damping over a large temperature range while preventing the needle from sticking.

The mirror on a compass serves the dual purpose of allowing you to sight bearings accurately and facilitating signaling by reflecting sunlight.
Sighting hole and notch in a compass facilitate precise navigation by allowing you to align the compass with distant landmarks and obtain accurate bearings.
Very Satisfied with the mc 2
Very Dissatisfied with the Smaller Compass's that I purchased. I bought 2 of the Smaller Ones and they areVery Cheaply Made. I wish I had just gotten another mc2.
I sighted a known feature about 6.5 km from my house and was accurate to within a quarter of a degree. Other compasses that I own don’t match that accuracy.
Readable, no need for wait for the needle settle.
It’s a nice compas
Best Compass I have ever purchased by far!
